LAKE HOWELL POP WARNER

LHPW FOOTBALL

TEAM DESIGNATIONS:

Football players are assigned to teams based on age, weight and experience level, at the sole discretion of LHPW. Provided below is the 2019 Pop Warner Age/Weight Matrix.

PRACTICE:

Practices begin on August 1st and will be held at Lake Howell High School. Practice will be four days a week from 6:00-8:30 pm for the first two weeks of the season. After the first two weeks, Tiny-Mites and Mitey-Mites will practice three days a week from 6:00-8:00 pm. All playoff eligible age groups (Jr. Pee Wee to Unlimited) will continue to practice four nights a week from 6:00-8:30 pm until Labor Day, after which they will practice three days a week from 6:00-8:00 pm. Practices are not optional!

Players are responsible for bringing all of their football equipment with them to practice each day. In addition, players should bring a large thermos of water, sunscreen (to be applied prior to practice) and bug spray to practice. Please note, LHPW does NOT provide water during practices.

SEASON:

The regular season runs from August 1 through late October, with games being held typically on Saturdays beginning at the end of August. Games will be played either at our home field (Lake Howell High School) or at our opponent's field. The game schedule will be available in late July, prior to the start of the regular season. Please be advised that there is the potential for post season games and/or bowl games to run through the end of October, and possibly even later depending on each team's advancement.

RULES AND EXPECTATIONS:

All LHPW rules and expectations will be provided prior to the start of the season. LHPW will hold a mandatory player/parent meeting the week prior to the start of the season to discuss these rules and expectations. In addition, each team will hold its own mandatory player/parent meeting prior to the start of the season so that the coaches may introduce themselves and may go over their own rules and expectations for the season.

SAFETY FIRST:

Pop Warner is the only youth football program (local, regional and national) that sets and enforces a strict age/weight matrix in order to reduce the risk of injuries. Therefore, kids are competing with kids of similar age and sizes. In addition, all of LHPW's football coaches and team parents are required to be "Heads Up" safety certified. The "Heads Up" program teaches our coaches the correct way to teach blocking and tackling in order to reduce the risk of injuries as much as possible.  To learn more about the "Heads Up" program, please visit www.usafootball.com.
